Born Ellas Bates to his family, but known to the world as Bo Diddley passed away today in his Florida home. Diddley, an influential rock-n-roll singer, songwriter and guitarist has often been cited as being one of the innovators in the transition of blues to rock. His signature rhythm is often summarized as "shave and a haircut, two bits." He was one of the pioneers of the electric guitar as well, adding reverb and tremelo effects. Everyone from Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, The Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds, The Who, The Doors, The Stooges, The Clash, Johnny Thunders, Bruce Springsteen and Elvis Costello have all been influenced by him in someway. Without him, where do you think music would be today? The legendary musician was 79.
