Fresno State Bulldogs Win College World Series!!!

Jesus Christ, what a game and what a series. I don't think I have watched this much of any College World Series ever in my entire life. The Fresno St. Bulldogs became the lowest seed in ANY college sport to win an NCAA championship (no big deal). They survived 6 elimination games on the way to their title, which is pretty insane. For you college basketball heads, their RPI ranking was 89th! It's basically equivalent of a 13-16 seed winning March Madness.

Maybe it's because I am from the Central Valley or maybe it's because I remember going to Bulldogs games with my Dad when I was a little kid, but I feel proud of this team. They played through so many injuries and never once gave up. No one expected them to make it this far let alone win 1 game, but after they destroyed Rice 17-5 and then beat North Carolina 5-3, I realized they had a shot at taking the whole thing. The crazy thing is, they were doing it without ace pitcher Tanner Scheppers. Even after they beat #19 Long Beach St., #9 San Diego, #4 Arizona St., #5 Rice, and #2 North Carolina, the dipshit ESPN announcers still didn't give them credit. They were just another Cinderella story. This is what Warriors fans must feel like when they hear Charles Barkley constantly hate on Golden State.

Bulldogs pitcher Justin Miller pitched a brilliant game through out his 8 innings (9 Strike Outs, 1 Walk, 5 Hits, 1 Run on 128 pitches). I just want to break down what Fresno St. did in the series to win their very first NCAA Division I mens championship. It's pretty much one of the greatest "Underdog/Cinderella" stories in sports history, let alone college sports:

*They were not only the lowest-seeded team ever to reach the College World Series, but they're also the lowest-seeded team EVER to reach the championship round (final two teams) of an NCAA tournament for any sport. The Bulldogs were a regional No. 4 seed to start the tourney, the equivalent of being seeded in the 13-16 range in basketball. In other words, there aren't many adjectives to describe how improbable their run to a CWS title has been.

*They became the first team in NCAA history to win a championship with 31 loses.

*They weren't even ranked in the Top 30 when regular season play ended.

*They needed to win the WAC tournament just to make it to the NCAA tournament.

*They went 7-3 against national ranked teams.

*Fresno State's .309 team batting ave. in Omaha was the highest by a CWS champion since Miami hit .314 in 2000 and only the fourth time since 1980 that the CWS champion finished with above a .300 ave. in Omaha.

*Steven Detwiler tied the record for most HR's by a player in a championship game as well as most RBI's by a player in a championship game. He did all of this with a torn ligament in his thumb too.

*Tommy Mendonca was named The Most Outstanding Player in the CWS. He did this with 4 dislocated fingers as well.

*The Bulldogs led all CWS teams with 14 HR from seven players.

*They tied the record for most runs scored in the history of the CWS with 62 runs.

I guess Georgia didn't hear there's no crying in baseball.
